A GAMAO credential is not a purchase — it is a verification. This page explains exactly what our certification means, how it is earned, and why it withstands scrutiny that certificate mills cannot.
What a GAMAO Certification Means
When GAMAO certifies an instructor or practitioner, we are making a public statement: this person’s competence has been tested against a documented standard by a qualified examiner. A GAMAO credential signals verified teaching ability, technical competence, ethical standing, and adherence to safety standards. It is portable, recognized across our network, and independently verifiable.
The Methodology: “If We Teach It, We Can Test It”
This principle is the foundation of GAMAO’s integrity. We do not award rank or certification for attendance, seniority, or payment alone. Every credential corresponds to a defined, testable competency. If a skill cannot be demonstrated and assessed, GAMAO does not certify it. This single rule separates GAMAO from the bulk of the certification market.
Evidence-Based Validation
GAMAO standards are built on a modular curriculum. Core modules are required of every certified instructor — Safety & First Aid, Ethics, Evidence-Based Methodology, Teaching Fundamentals, and the Legal Framework of Self-Defense. Specialist modules are delivered through our sub-organizations (Krav Maga, combatives, jiu-jitsu, Hapkido). Validation combines demonstrated technical skill, teaching assessment, and documented evidence of training history.
Rank Recognition Process
Many experienced instructors already hold legitimate rank. GAMAO offers a rank recognition pathway: submit documentation of existing rank and training lineage, and our credentialing committee reviews it against GAMAO standards. Recognized rank is recorded in the GAMAO register; where gaps exist, we define exactly what must be demonstrated to close them. We recognize genuine credentials and we never simply rubber-stamp them.
